Our Family History Group takes place on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 10.30am. Our participants consist of u3a members with varied experience on this topic. Those with little experience are provided with one to one assistance to start them on their journey. Two of our members have found out that they are connected to each other and one is even related to a former Torbay Mayor! Our meetings usually begin with a presentation on a specific topic and is then followed by discussion on topics chosen by those present. There are many commercial packages, such as Ancestry, FindMyPath and My Heritage and members use these, as appropriate. Torquay u3a has recently provided a new computer package – Family Tree Maker – and this offers many opportunities for lower cost family tree building. New members are welcome.
